Three reasons I hope you’ll join me and Janelle Hardy on May 26 for a live writer’s block workshop.
1: Janelle is a trauma-informed body worker who brings a unique perspective to writer’s block
I love learning new ways to help writers unlock their stories – particularly grief and healing narratives. Although I have my favourite techniques for helping writers move past blocks like fear and resistance, I don’t have the knowledge, skills or training Janelle has. She teaches a whole new way of looking at resistance and a different approach to breaking through writer’s block that is highly effective.
2: Memoir and creative nonfiction writers need to be able to safely access the wisdom of their bodies to tell their stories
One of the most common challenges memoir and creative nonfiction writers face is how to write from their body’s point of view. Accessing the body’s wisdom is a key trait of powerful writing and it can also help us heal. By tuning into sensation and evoking the senses we engage the reader, allowing them to experience our story vicariously. By naming those sensations and feelings we can also let them go.
3:The techniques Janelle teaches will help you break through writer’s block… but they’ll also help you whenever you feel stressed or anxious
Memoir and creative nonfiction writers tend to be highly sensitive people – and highly sensitive people can easily find themselves anxious and overstimulated, especially when delving into personal storytelling. Janelle is going to lead us through some simple exercises and techniques that will help us to regulate our nervous systems. Janelle’s training has allowed me to write from a place of stillness and receptivity, which helps me tell stories with more ease and flow. You can use these techniques when you’re feeling stuck – but you can also use them in day to day life when you need to feel calm and relaxed.
It’s free to register for Janelle’s workshop! We’ve scheduled it for May 26 at 10:00 am PT and there will be a replay recording. For more info and to sign up click the link in my resources. I hope to see you there!
